The 746 is a quintessential British retro telephone and a 1960’s style icon. Launched in 1967 by the General Post Office in response to public demand, it would inspire two decades of conversation and is to this day, recognized as the universal symbol of the phone. Referred to as the “Modern Phone”, it was a welcome redesign to the popular 706 model. Amongst a raft of improvements, a stable handset rest and carrying take care of were incorporated into the modeled switch hook cradle to give a boost to visibility, whilst the internal workings were updated in line with technological advancements.
